The portal and billing platform of Microsoft Dynamics are together referred to as Microsoft online services environment. The design of this environment helps in streamlining and improving the experience of customers across all online services of Microsoft. This enables all customers to control and manage their Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and Office 365 subscriptions from one place and ensures enhanced compliance to regulatory and industry standards.

      Before the implementation of this environment, customers had to use different administration portal and billing platforms to create and manage their Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online accounts. This platform will be discontinued by the Q4 in 2013. Customers will then be moved to Microsoft’s standard administration environment for cloud services or to be called the Microsoft online services environment.

      There won’t be a case of Microsoft moving all data physically. Your actual Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization consisting your application and data will be left untouched on the same online infrastructure irrespective of the transition. The whole process of this transition will only be implemented during the new authentication mechanism with the existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization. There are several phases that are necessary for complete transition.

Start Phase
      This is the stage where administration and billing of your organization is managed through the older protocol platform and you are asked to perform certain activities for the preparation of the transition.

Pre-Transition Phase
      It is advised by Microsoft to start the Pre-Transition activities weeks in advance of the scheduled date of transition.
This transition of services will have an impact on users, developers and administrators of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and thus it requires a level of planning equivalent to any major technology infrastructure change.
During this Phase, your Transition Manager will set up a Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online trial account on the Microsoft online services environment of your organization. Once this account is created, you will have access to your CRM Online solution on the Microsoft online services environment. Once your trial account has been created on the Microsoft online services environment, you will have to activate your license and billing procedures before you can start with the transition. New users should not be added during the pre transition phase.

Transition Phase
      The transition will be performed during this phase, which is the responsibility of Microsoft. Until this phase is successfully completed, your organization will still be in a Read-only mode
This phase consists of a series of tasks performed by Microsoft with the help of the transition manager. These are the tasks that were planned in the weeks leading up to the actual transition, to be executed at the desired and agreed time.

Post-Transition Phase
      This phase is the responsibility of the customer wherein the subscription and the new user details will be transitioned to the trial account to access the Microsoft Dynamics Online accounts.
It is advisable for all organizations to perform the Post-Transition tasks and validation tests contained in the Post-Transition checklist to ensure proper transition. This step also helps to make sure that all the user accounts affected by the transition work properly post-transition.
